Penguin Group (Canada) to Distribute Canongate Books in Canada

Toronto – September 30, 2008
Penguin Group Canada is delighted to announce it will become the exclusive Canadian distributor of the UK based independent publisher Canongate Books, effective May 1, 2009.

"We are thrilled that from next year Penguin will be distributing our list in Canada," said Canongate Publisher and Managing Director, Jamie Byng on a visit to Toronto last week. "It feels like a perfect match and we already have affiliations with Penguin in other parts of the world that we are very happy with."

Among the Canongate titles Penguin will launch in Spring 2009 are Mari Strachan’s The Earth Hums in B Flat and Geoff Dyer’s already critically acclaimed Jeff in Venice, Death in Varanasi. National Sales Director Tim Carter will add Canadian sales for Canongate to his current responsibilities for Penguin UK and group company titles, Bloomsbury, Walker & Co. and A&C Black, Little, Brown UK and Faber & Faber UK.

"We've long admired the quality of Canongate's books so we're hugely pleased by the fact that we'll now be distributing them in Canada," said Penguin Canada Publisher and President David Davidar.
