Penguin to publish Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap Stories
Toronto—February 14, 2011—Randy Bachman, legendary rock n' roll icon and host of CBC Radio's Vinyl Tap has signed a deal to publish Vinyl Tap Stories with Penguin Canada in Fall 2011. The deal was inked by Publishing Director Diane Turbide with Bachman's long-time friend and manager Gilles Paquin.
"After thousands of fan requests for the stories behind the songs," said Bachman, "I'm thrilled to be able to put out this book. These are some of my favourite personal stories and they make the songs much more real and precious."
"Even the most rabid music fan will discover new territory in this book," said Turbide. "What people love about the show is that Randy's a great storyteller: we want to hear more about what happened backstage with rock legends, or how a famous song came to be written, or why certain riffs work and others don't. He's an encyclopaedia of pop music, but he makes it all so much fun. His new book will delight fans who have been asking for more."
Born in Canada, Randy Bachman is often referred to as the "Canadian architect of rock music" through his talents as a guitarist, songwriter, performer and producer. Known best for his work in The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and now Bachman & Turner, he has earned over 120 gold and platinum album/singles awards around the world for performing and producing. His song-writing has garnered him the coveted #1 spot on radio play lists in more than 20 countries and he has sold over 40 million records. His songs have been recorded by numerous other artists and placed in dozens of television, movie and commercial soundtracks. His music has provided a veritable soundtrack of the last thirty years of popular music.
Since 2005, Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap on CBC and Sirius Satellite Radio has been heard by millions worldwide each week. On the show, Randy plays audio recordings and entertains listeners with reminiscences about personal encounters with famous artists and musicians from his 50-year career in rock. In addition to being CBC Radio's top-rated weekend program, the two-hour show won the silver medal at the International Radio Conference in New York (2009).
Described by Turbide as a great read for rock music lovers of all ages, Vinyl Tap Stories will bring Randy's unique voice to print. These are stories told as only Randy Bachman can tell them, whether about monster songs that mysteriously never had radio play or examples of how even the greats such as Roy Orbison and The Beatles resorted to silly words (or non-words) to fill in a song.
Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap Stories is scheduled for release in October 2011. Marketing plans include in-store events and book-signings tied to Bachman's 2011 concert commitments, online promotion and national advertising. For more information on the radio show, visit www.randysvinyltap.com.
