Pearson Professional Learning Presents
Pedagogical Documentation
Seeing Learning through Multiple Lenses
Robin Bethke Facilitator: Robin Bethke

Robin Bethke is passionate about learning… learning for children and for educators. Throughout her career Robin has been learning about children in her role as a classroom teacher, an early reading intervention teacher and a teacher-librarian. For the past 10 years Robin continued to learn about learning, teaching, and leading through her work as a Literacy and Early Years Consultant at the system level. Robin completed a three year secondment with the Ontario Ministry of Education where she planned and facilitated professional learning through collaborative inquiries with early primary educators and literacy leaders across the province.

Through these experiences Robin had the privilege of working on the creation of Board and Ministry of Education resources that support early primary educators in implementing inquiry and play based learning in their classrooms, using pedagogical documentation as a way of “coming to know” children and engaging in collaborative inquiry as professional learning. Recently Robin joined a team of classroom teachers and principals to spend a month learning and teaching in a rural community in Uganda, Africa. This experience confirmed Robin’s deepest belief about learning and teaching: “Successful learning is not dependent on curriculum, materials or space, but at the core it is what teachers believe about children and learning that makes the difference.”
